Author's comments:
Merry Christmas to you all, and a gift Jolly Sir VG has brought, a Mega Man 7 100% Item Collection speedrun! First off, Id like to explain what constitutes 100% item collection and then I will get into the run.
100% Item Collection consists of beating the 8 bosses and getting the following items: Rush Search, Rush Jet, Protoshield, S-Adapter (formed from the R U S H chips found in the first 4 bosses levels), S-Adapter booster, Exit, Autos Bolt, Weapon Balancer, and Beat. E-tanks, W-tanks, and S-tanks do not count towards this as they are expendable items. All of these items except the S-Adapter, Protoshield, and Beat (Beat refills are exempt from this rule) can be purchased from Autos shop, but its a big time waste. S-Adapter booster alone costs 800 bolts if you get Autos Bolt. So its much faster to use Rush Search to find the items. Also, the Protoshield can only be found by beating Proto Man, but you have to find him in two locations before you can battle him.
Intro Stage: After the 2 minute intro, I dive head first into battle. Bass gets the crap kicked out of him quickly. Great start.
Freeze Man: This stage sucked. Horribly. I picked up the H chip, Rush Search, and Exit. Boss fight went great, with a nice dramatic finish.
Burst Man: I use the Rush Coil after the crap to really fly high instead of just floating up (thanks to the TASers for this trick!). I pick up the R chip for my collection. Boss fight went right to text book.
Cloud Man: I hit the first weather vane with my buster to get it to start raining (and get it out of my way) and I hit the 2nd with Freeze Cracker to get it to start snowing. This snowfall makes the platforms around the U chip easy to see (otherwise you just get spotlights). I also meet with Proto Man for the first time. Level was fairly good. Boss right was excellent. Boring as can be, but excellent.
Junk Man: After getting the S chip, I take an intentional death to get back on the main route and go after Rush Jet. I also try to take advantage of S.Adapter, though the level played out a touch different than usualstupid platforms. Junk Man goes down nice and quickly.
Robot Museum: After another boring meeting with Dr. Light, I slide past some familiar faces and theres Dr. Wily stealing Guts ManAGAIN! If only Dr. Light made Megamans buster fire any other direction other than straight ahead. Oh well. Thanks to a new trick from the TASers, the clown goes down nice and fast.
Turbo Man: I go out of order and take him out next. I get the S.Adapter Booster and meet up with Proto Man again. Though you dont see it, I pick up the large bolt which is just adds to your bolt count in case I have to buy E-Tanks from Auto. As for Turbo Man himself, he goes down nice and quickly despite not having the suggested weapon, Noise Crush.
Slash Man: I take him out after Turbo Man because I need the Scorch Wheel to get Beat in this level. I also only take Rush Jet halfway through the spiked section because I always seem to get hit and die if I go further. Slash Man manipulates nicely for a good fight.
Spring Man: I equip S.Adapter to allow me to better manipulate the level, plus it allows easier access to Autos Bolt and the E-Tank in the level. I had a couple minor flubs in level, but nothing too serious. Thanks to a trick from our good old Nate, I manage to beat Spring Man in good time. I missed a couple shots, but nothing major.
Shade Man: Recognize the special music? B+Start for the win! I take the lower split route first to go fight Proto Man for the Protoshield, and do the battle in a style Nate would be proud ofI end with exactly 1 tick left so I can immediately do my intentional death at the Sniper Joe. After getting back on the main route, I use Thunder Bolt against the pumpkin for an easier battle, but I hit the eyes, which beats him differently, allowing access to an easier upper route, plus I need to go this way to get the Weapon Balancer. For those playing Mega Man 7 via the anniversary collection, you get ripped. The SNES version (which Im using) has Bass saying Damn! Anyways, I ignore his lies and beat Shade Man (thanks to Nate for the tip about the wild coil) in a hurry.
Well, Dr. Light got Bass repairs done in record time, and then Bass destroys everything. Lovely. So its off to Dr. Wilys fortress!
Wily 1: I had a few flubs here, but overall a good level. Bass went down fairly good with the help of Noise Crush. I tried to manipulate the roaches to give me energy drops, but it didnt quite go well enough. If I would have had a few more, I wouldnt have had to use an E-Tank at Guts Man part 17.
Wily 2: The suggested weapon for the Bass+Treble fight is S.Adapter, but it makes for a really hard fight. Freeze Cracker is a better weapon to use as you can hit him more frequently, and you can stay mobile. I do still take quite a bit of damage, but still come out of the battle fairly nicely. The turtle battle sucked, but I still come out on top.
Wily 3: I take the upper route as its faster, easier, and that 3 tank combo is nice. The boss goes down fairly good, though admitably I could have taken fewer hits. Yes, I do catch that last Noise Crush with my own body!
I stop by Auto and Eddies shop and give Auto his bolt and pick up 2 E-Tanks for backup purposes (turns out I didnt need them) and head out to finish the game. Im still trying to figure out why one little bolt fixed Auto up that easily. Oh well.
Wily 4: I tackle the 8 bosses again. Slash was less manipulative, Freeze Man goes down in a hurry, Junk Man goes down right to plan, Cloud Man is still a boring boss, Turbo Man goes down in record time, Spring Man still doesnt like the idea of me hitting him when I want to, Shade Man falls from the belfry, and Burst Man bursts his bubble. After filling up Wild Coil, its off to face Dr. Wily!
Wily Boss 1: I take a bit more damage than I usually do trying to be a bit too aggressive.
Wily Boss 2: This boss idea must have been Capcoms favorite. They used it way too much. Its also the most annoying! Whenever I could, I would take a hit from the yellow spheres to avoid the rest, but the red ones seemed attracted to me for some stupid reason.
And with the last hit, I beat Wily in just under an hour with 100% item collection! Thanks to Nate for all his help after watching my first run and for Tinister for all the tips I picked up from his TAS. And thanks to all of you for watching!
And to you eBay sellers, SELL MY RUN WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND DIE.
Sir VG, signing out.
